This is the pre-production concept set and prop design paintings for the script Building Time. This was my first time working with director Brian Crewe. This film involves time travel, so the main focus was creating and recreating sets in different time periods. The tricky part was showing progression of the main Time Lab over time without making it unrecognizable. The audience needs to be able to see any of these set designs and automatically know where they are in time and location.
Cumulus is a personal work inspired by beautiful cloud formations. This project is a short animation sequence about Squadron 'Cumulus' gracefully navigating a battlefield in the clouds.
These are visual development pieces for the novel Mainspring. This was a personal project inspired by the author's vivid writing. Each environment was based on excerpts from key moments throughout the story.
This was a matte painting done for the film Une Libération. This was the second time I had the pleasure of working with director Brian Crewe. The film is currently touring the nation, winning film festival awards along the way.
I was asked to create a blacked-out Paris nearing the end of World War II. The Eiffel Tower and Seine River were key elements needed in the shot. This was a historical film, so based on the geography I pinpointed various locations that would make this composition accurate. I was also conscious of which buildings and bridges existed during the 1940s. With this in mind, my main objective was capturing the mood of the film while staying true to the original lighting.
This was visual development for a game concept based on the Uncharted series. The inspiration comes from the world's largest cave Hang Son Doong.
The goal of these designs was to create environments that show game pathing in level design. The cave composition was purposely designed to show one way in and one way out, while the plan view communicates a more elaborate path. This allows for a more interesting level design, as the escape route is initially hidden from the player.
This section shows various projects ranging from speed paints to 3D renderings to drawings of my friends as cartoons to avoid paying for Christmas gifts. I hope you enjoy the randomness of this section.
T.O.A.D. was a NASA sponsored mobility project. The idea was to put astronauts back on the moon in the year 2020 with a pressurized rover. T.O.A.D. (to Observe Analyze and Defend) would act as the scouts, landing on the surface ahead of the astronauts. Time is the most valuable resource for EVAs (Extra Vehicular Activities). Pre-analyzing resource sites would be invaluable for NASA to bring back as much data as possible from the moon and future space endeavors.
Vanguard is a backpack prototype designed for back-country ski patrollers. There are four main compartments for medical supplies, food, and water. The rear compartment holds a special lightweight toboggan made of corrugated polypropylene.
There is only so much time available to save a life in an emergency. This design allows a patroller to act immediately and bring a victim to safety.
